Hearts of Fire Youth Ministry

“Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

As a community, we recognize that our youth are not just the future of the Community; they are truly a vital part of the Community life today.  They are fully counted in our daily life and caring for their needs is very important to us.  Through our youth ministry we challenge our children to love Christ, embrace His call on them to fully participate in the life of the Church and of our Community.

Adult members of the Community offer guidance and direction in the various ministries and programs for our youth.  These programs offer the experience of belonging, opportunities for praise and worship, small group sharing, and times for fun and recreation.  It’s an opportunity to nurture our youth in their Catholic faith while allowing them to feel safe and accepted by those around them.  The youth participate in all Community activities and serve in various ways including music ministry, sound ministry, and other ministries within the community.  The youth programs are also ways that our children can reach out to peers and invite them to encounter Jesus because they are designed to be evangelistic in nature.

My appeal to you today, young people is this: do not waste your youth!

“Do not seek to escape from it. Live it intensely…you young people, are not just the future of the Church and of humanity, as if we could somehow run away from the present….The Church needs you, as young people, to manifest to the world the face of Jesus Christ, visible in the Christian Community. Without this young face, the Church would appear disfigured.”

Pope Benedict XVI to Youth in Brazil, 2007

Hearts of Fire

Mission Statement

Hearts of Fire (“HOF”) is the teenage youth ministry of the Community of God’s Love (“COGL”). Hearts of fire it primarily an outreach to the youth of our Community who are 13 to 18 years of age. However, over the years it has also expanded to include any area youth who are interested in our Catholic, Charismatic way of life.

Our purpose is to empower our young people to live their Catholic faith to the fullest extent possible. To accomplish this we provide a safe and faith-filled environment where (1) a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is cultivated, (2) the charismatic gifts and life in the Holy Spirit are fostered, (3) personal holiness and spiritual maturity are encouraged, (4) strong fraternal relationships are developed and (5) wholesome Catholic recreation and fun are enjoyed.

We also provide opportunities for our young people to share their faith in Christ and their love of His Church through various service projects and outreaches.

Encouraged by St. Paul, we challenge the members of Hearts of Fire to “Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.” (T1 Timothy 4:12)

Founding Scripture: Jeremiah 20:9  “I say to myself, I will not mention him, I will speak his name no more. But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart, imprisioned in my bones; I grow weary holding it, I cannot endure it.”

Please note that per diocesan policy, each youth is required to have a completed Permission Form for every school year that they are involved with Hearts of Fire; this can and should be brought to the first meeting that the teen attends.

Emails specific to Hearts of Fire can be sent to hof@coglove.org. Please feel free to email us with any questions at all regarding the ministry.

Youth Participation Permission Form

Both the Diocese of Steubenville and good common sense require that the legal guardian give their consent before their children can participate in HOP activities.   Please download, fill out, sign and return the permission forms to the leaders of HOF.  Youth CANNOT participate in HOF activities until this is done.
